First Post

What a great title. Don't worry, we'll try to be more creative from now on.

A little background please, Valerie!

We moved to Halifax Nova Scotia from Ontario at the beginning of this summer (actually, Richard's been here since last September). I think we make great maritimers, but as born and bred Ontari-airy-airy-ans, sometimes we're still surprised out here. (For example: drivers slow and stop to allow pedestrians to cross the road, even if it's not at a traffic light! Downtown!) So transplants we are: adapting slowly and learning to thrive in a new marriage, and loving the new environment.

Richard and I decided to start this blog to help keep in touch with friends and family back "home" in Ontario (and wherever else those friends may be). It's cheaper than long distance phone calls, easier than trying to be online at the same time, and no annoying mass emails clogging anyone's inbox. And this way, you only have to find out what we're up to if, you know, you want to.

So... we will try to update at least once a week to let you know how things are cooking here in Halifax as we try to settle in to a new apartment (sans furniture) and new jobs (Richard is doing his Master's in Physical Oceanography at Dalhousie University, and I'm working retail at The Shoe Company).

When we have some time, I'll tell you all about what I did last weekend (hint: alpacas) and we'll post some pictures we took during our Labour Day Weekend road trip.

But for now, I leave you with a picture of two Ontario Loons relocating to a new habitat:

This is Richard and Valerie in the old '94 Caravan driving to Halifax from Cannington. You can see that the strain of moving has made them a little giddy and prone to silliness. (I think this was taken somewhere in New Brunswick)
