Knitting Nauties

I discovered an online knitting magazine called Knitty when I was in my first few weeks of teacher's college. It's published about four times a year, includes an editorial column, technical and anecdotal articles, and a selection of patterns. The patterns range from easy to devilish, and include patterns for anything under the sun. (Check out the pattern archives to see what I mean.)

The most recent Knitty had a pattern for knitted nautiloids, prehistoric snaily-type creatures. I showed Richard and he said, "will you make me one?"

So here's Richard with some new friends:

Go away, we're studying for an exam.

I knit them with leftover yarn (hooray for using up leftovers!) and embroidered the eyes on. I knit the smaller, purple one (on shoulder) while we were watching The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Fantastic effects, fairly true to the book... a charming movie, even if we both liked Lord of the Rings better.

The most fun part of doing the nauties was the tentacles, which are floppy and fun to bother someone with. Especially if he's trying to study for an exam. Mwahahahaha.
