New and Exciting Projects*

This is just a quicky post while I wait for the laundry to finish. (Does it ever end?) The weather in Halifax -- well, out east in general-- is pretty unpredictable. We had about a week of gorgeous 15 degree sunny weather before Easter, and now, heh. It's snowing this morning. Sideways. The temperature is hovering around 0 or 1, so it's not sticking around, but it's still fairly depressing.

Since it's been so yicky, it's hard to take pictures of anything -- bad lighting means I either wash out the details of what I'm photographing with the flash, or all the pictures come out blurry because the harder I try to keep my hand steady, the more I shake.

However, I never got a chance (read: was too lazy to) post some pictures from when Michael was visiting over Christmas holidays. I hear he's off in the middle of nowhere right now, planting more trees (on the other side of the country where maybe it's not so snowy), but through the magic of digital photography I have the pictures saved on my computer and we can look at them right now! It's like going back in time!

The artist hard at work. Ever since we were wee sprouts watching the Iron Chef on the Food Network, it has been a Hammett sibling burning ambition to create a carrot pagoda. Yes. Pagoda.

And behold! The carrot pagoda in all it's glory! Ignore the blurryness. Didn't I already explain to you about the dim light and the shaky hands?

All silliness aside, while we were trawling the internet looking for architecturally-inspired vegetable inspriration, we discovered that Thai chefs have been using all sorts of gorgeous fruit and vegetable garnishes for a long time --- and all I can say is wow! (Click on the blue, underlined words for some amazing examples).

*Ha ha ha! Fooled you--there is nothing new about this project. Whups. Guess I got off track. Maybe next time!
