Nova Scotia starbook

I mentioned in yesterday's post (ooh, two days in a row, aren't you lucky) that I was mooning over handmade books and journals of all kinds. Some day, I'd like to do something super-schmancy and learn how to do a sewn binding of some sort, but in the meantime, I give you the Nova Scotia starbook.

as an aside, what is with the crazy colours in these photos? These pictures were taken within five minutes of each other in the same place. I think I need a new camera. Or some sort of photo editing software.

I can't claim credit for this design; I put this book together after shamelessly ripping off something I saw in a papercrafts store a couple of weeks ago. It took me about an hour to do. I used cardboard for the covers, covered with scrapbook paper, and the pages are cardstock. As you can see most clearly from the middle picture, I'm not done with the content of the book yet, but I've started filling it (not hard, there's only 12 pages) with pictures taken last labour day out near Digby. Hence, "Nova Scotia" starbook. (Remember these?)
In the end, I think it would have been easier to decorate the pages before I put the book together: the three-layered construction that makes it a starbook means that the pages don't lie flat. However, I've chosen a simple layout, so it's not too hard.

ps. the handmade notebook I sent to Amy and that is shown in this post is a similar construction, but doesn't have the star layers: that way the pages will lie flat.
