"Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire"
LM Montgomery, one of Canada's most beloved children's authors, described Prince Edward Island in such glowing terms. She loved the Island so much that it is the setting of most of her novels, and although she lived in Ontario for years, she would return to her home as often as possible to regenerate.
This past weekend, Richard and I took a trip over to the island. The weather was fantastic and we had a wonderful time.
We started by following the North Cape Coastal Drive out through Summerside and to the North Cape. Most of the drive is along the coast, with a spectacular view of the ocean.
We camped at Prince Edward Island National Park. Saturday night we stayed at their Cavendish campsite, with an ocean view. While the sit itself was nothing special, take a look at the view--we were literally steps from the ocean. At night, all you could hear was the sighing of the waves.
More pictures, and what we did Sunday, later.
And yes, the dirt on the island really is red.

Of course, no trip to the Island is complete without a visit to Green Gables National Historic Site, in Cavendish. While Montgomery never actually lived in the house, she was a frequent visitor, and the house and surrounding community were her inspirations for Green Gables and Avonlea. The house is restored to the late 1800s and is furnished according to the descriptions in Anne of Green Gables.

I've never been to PEI, but it looks super nice. A while ago, on a random blog, I saw that someone wished to visit Nova Scotia, specifically the Prince Edward Island area. It made me giggle :)
Loved the pictures. We'll have to go back & do some touristy stuff with the visiting-with-friends stuff. Mind you, our short video of the giant clam licking the salt is priceless!
